Mark C.'s Story
Life
I was born in New Jersey in 1952, where my father worked for the FBI as a fingerprint classifier. Later, we moved to Baltimore, Maryland, where my younger brother was born on the same date as I had been (Dec. 30th.) Somehow, we ended up in Hales Corners, and then down the road a bit to New Berlin, Wisconsin. We lived there until my father decided to go into the ministry, so we moved to California in 1964. We lived in Long Beach, California, where my dad attended Pacific Christian College. When he graduated in 1967, we moved to Santa Ana, California, where I graduated high school in 1971. I met my wife Robin, in 1970, although she had lived down the street from us in Santa Ana for many years.
I Attended Pacific Christian College '71-'74; Married Robin Love in 1972; moved to Gallup, New Mexico 1974; employed by Santa Fe Railway (now BNSF) in 1977; moved to Belen, NM in 1986; promoted to Locomotive Engineer 1991; 3 grown kids: Timothy, Robert, Laurel. Tim is in the US Navy, stationed at Suffolk,VA, and has 2 beautiful girls. Robert is working for the Illinois state Government, living in Springfield, Illinois, and has 3 girls. Laurel has 5 boys and 1 ...Expand for more
girl..
Our hobbies are raising water turtles and box turtles.. I retired from the railroad in 2003 on a disability annuity from the U.S. Railroad Retirement Board.
School
I attended Santa Ana High School, from 1968-1971. My favorite subjects were Latin and "Debutantes and Esquires". I also was on the wrestling team, and I participated in 2 musicals put on by the drama dept. I met Robin Love in 1970, and we have been together ever since.
College
After graduating from Santa Ana High School, I attended Pacific Christian College for 3 years. I thoroughly enjoyed my time there, although I would appreciate it much more now that I am older and I hope, somewhat wiser. Some of my good friends were: Ed Wolfe; David Barry; Rod Lewis; Dave Nishinaka; Ken Hart, and many more!
Workplace
In 1974, I left College, and moved to New Mexico to be near my father. From 1974 to 1977, I worked several jobs until the railroad began hiring. In March of 1977, I began to work for the AT&SF Railway in Gallup, New Mexico, as a Brakeman. In 1981, I was promoted to Conductor, and in 1991, I was promoted to Locomotive Engineer. However, as of June 2003, I am retired on a disability.
